First United Methodist Church
The United Methodist Church is an 11-million-strong global church that opens hearts, opens doors and opens minds through active engagement with our world.
John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
We invite you to learn more about our rich theological heritage.
Turlock’s First United Methodist Church is the first Christian church community established in Turlock, California in 1876. Since the church’s founding we have sought to reach out to all people in our community, in surrounding areas, or wherever needs are recognized.
Membership in the First United Methodist Church is open to anyone who wishes to join in covenant with us as we work to be God’s people in the world. In our membership vows we declare ourselves to be followers of Jesus Christ, and promise to uphold His church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, and our service.
We are people of all shapes, colors and backgrounds. We are single, we are married. Some have been through divorce or experienced the loss of a loved one in death. We have varieties of handicaps and abilities. We are young and we are not so young. None of us is perfect. We gather with our needs and our hurts as well as our joys and dreams. We welcome everyone!
Here you’ll find children learning Bible stories, youth repairing the homes of needy families, and members preparing meals for the Turlock men’s shelter. We seek to be people committed to learning and ministry in the name of Christ, and to sharing God’s compassion, caring and hope in this world.
